New Zealand is home to musicians who can proudly stand alongside the best in the world.
Hawke's Bay is home to some of the great musicians of New Zealand.
May is New Zealand Music Month, and we celebrate that by focusing even more locally with Hawke's Bay Music Month.
We are hosting two Showcase Sessions, each with two full bands. These sessions bring you artists that we feel stand alongside some of New Zealand's very best. We believe that would delight audiences on any stage globally.
Showcase Session #1 will be in the recently refurbished Haumoana Community Hall on Saturday May 16th. Doors will open at 6.00pm and the session will begin at 7.00pm. This Session will feature a young artist with an incredibly bright future, Mahinarangi Lawrence alongside her band made up of Shaqaila Uelese on piano, Chris Beernink on bass, Luke Burns on guitar, and Halo Siloata on drums.
The second band is BANNERMAN a project by recently returned local, Richie Setford. BANNERMAN had a passionate following in NZ before moving to live in Berlin for some years. It's very exciting to have him living back in HB. His band comprises of Andrew Gladstone on drums, Cambell Burns on bass, Paula Sugden on cello and Richie on guitar & vocals.
Showcase Session #2 will be in the magnificaent CHB Municipal Theatre, our first ever visit there. It takes place on Sunday May 31st with the doors opening at 4pm and the session beginning at 4.30pm. This showcase will feature The Mon Shelford Band. Mon is a powerhouse local, who honed her musical (and life skills) with some years spent in Melbourne. Mon is front and centre on guitar and vocals, with Edgar Roberts on keys, Ben Jackman on Bass And Justin Lindsay on guitar.
The second band up will be The Phil Edwards Band. Another local who has established a wide national following and has recently returned to live in Hawke's Bay, Phil is excited to bring his band together on the brink of their release of a new album. With Phil are all his origional band members Adrian Ashdown, Timothy Williams & Simon McDowell. These four have now played together as a band for 17 years.
These two Showcase Sessions are important. They will reinforce the knowledge that Hawke's Bay really is home to world class musicians. This is your chance to support them by giving them what they deserve; an audience eager to hear their songs and their stories in our cherished community spaces.
