Waka Maimai Aroha - Waka of Affection - Matariki

Henderson Road, Flaxmere, Hastings

Write a message of remembrance, reflection and gratitude on a lantern to mark Matariki. Witness hundreds of lanterns reflecting on the water. One free lantern per family. These are reusable and the paper is biodegradable. Join a procession of lantern carriers that encircle the perimeter of The Pond, recite a Matariki prayer and then launch lanterns together onto the water. At 8.30pm the lanterns are lifted from the water and burnt in a closing hau ahi ceremony. There's Kai to warm the belly and entertainment for the soul from 6pm.
