Celebrating Hawke’s Bay’s locally grown music in our local halls, we bring you three extraordinary artists.
First up tonight we have Julian Tabat – Julian has just completed his studies in Music at EIT and has worked alongside us on sound and lighting on several Sessions. He has a gorgeous vocal range and serious keyboard skills, with a style could be considered warm pop!
Alan Downes There is probably no songwriter better suited to performing in the small halls of Hawke’s Bay than Alan Downes. Alan was raised in the tiny community of Patoka, and many of his songs reflect, with a grown up’s wit and wisdom, on the stories of his childhood. He also writes stories that he heard leaning over a fence chatting to a neighbor or about his first encounter with a girl, you guessed it, down at a dance at the local hall. Folk songs, about just the people who’ll come along to listen to them!
Ebony Lamb With a sparse songwriting style that evokes the bare hills of Hawke’s Bay and with a voice that can rattle the stones on the beach at Haumoana, Ebony was born & bred in Hastings. Her musical career has been stellar, with three albums recorded with her band, Eb & Sparrow, and now much anticipated a solo album produced alongside Bic Runga and Kodi Nielson. Her sound is distinctive and genre-defying. Imagine a world where Marianne Faithful, Ennio Morricone and Patsy Cline blend together.
With three great musical acts, a bar offering local wines & beer, inexpensive wholesome meals, and the comradery of your local community this will be a night to gather and celebrate what is wonderful about Hawke’s Bay.
