Parawhenuamea: The Untamed Rivers of Hawke's Bay

30 Te Mata Road, Havelock North

I’m repeating my talk due to demand and a new charity will receive the funds - Surf Life Saving New Zealand - Hawke’s Bay Search and Rescue Squad..

Join historian Michael Fowler who will give a talk on the Ngaruroro, Tutaekuri and Esk Rivers and attempts to control them over the years.

The illustrated talk will cover pre-European settlement, major floods of 1867, 1897, 1924 and 1938 - and the subsequent attempts to control what seemed untameable rivers from the 1860s to the end of the Hawke's Bay County Council area in 1989.
