Antigone

Pufflett Road, Havelock North

Reinvented, refreshed, resurgent. Hawkes Bay Youth Theatre Associates class (14/15 yrs) is proud to produce this classic tragedy. Adapted for a contemporary audience by Isabelle Gatt, first performed for the Trikki Trakki Youth Theatre Festival 2022 by students from the Malta Visual and Performing Arts Academy. Staged in 25 minutes, Antigone’s story is the original tale of feminine dissent, revolt and moral contention, here placed in a physical theatre setting. It evokes the timeless triumph of the human spirit against The Establishment, intermingled with dynamic fight sequences, moving tableaux and visceral bodyscapes.

Simple and timeless. Antigone awakens the activist in all of us. The time for change, is now.

With only two performances, don’t miss these young actors in this powerful piece of drama.
