City Treasures

16 Byron Street, Napier

This exhibition will bring out from the archives many of the treasured items Napier City possesses – in the form of rarely seen panoramic photographs of Napier pre and post 1931 earthquake, and gifts received from Napier’s sister cities in Japan, China and Canada over the years.

The gifts include a beautiful kimono, ceramics, wood carving, and dolls in national dress, and are absolutely stunning.

This will be a unique opportunity for the people of Hawke’s Bay and beyond to view these amazing objects at close quarters. The photographs are especially fascinating! By inspecting the gifted objects, you can form an appreciation of the cultural places they have come from and the craftmanship of the people from the cities that gifted them, so bring the whole family!

‘City Treasures’ will be on display from Saturday 4 August for 3 weeks. Please join us to celebrate the opening of this unique event by attending the opening party on Friday 3 August, 5-7pm.

Light refreshments will be served.
