Circle Dances of Europe

176 Cobden St, Gisborne

Dancing in a circle is an ancient tradition common to many cultures, used to mark special occasions, to build community, to foster togetherness. The circles may be open or closed, the dancers connected to each other by holding hands. No partners are necessary. Few other activities are so simple and effective at bringing people together.

This six-week course introduces some of the common circle dance styles of Europe, such as the Romanian hora, the Bulgarian racinica, and the Armenian miserlou, with an emphasis on simple and beautiful. Folk dance enthusiast Jane Luiten has over four years teaching experience, breaking down each dance for quick learning in a folk-friendly way.
