Mokotahi Hill

Newcastle Street, Mahia, Wairoa District, Hawkes Bay

A must visit lookout spot while you're in Mahia!

Mokotahi Hill lookout is just a short 10-20 minute walk on a well-carved track offering epic views over Mahia beach across to Opoutama and out into the northern waters of Hawke Bay. The white-cliffed headland is the standout landmark of the Mahia Peninsula, while offering excellent views from the top of it. Recent works have also widened the track to make it safer and more accessible.

Access is via a signposted carpark, halfway between Mahia beach and Taylors Bay. Note, the walk involves a steady incline for most of the ascent, but with several opportunities to rest and take in the views.

Mokotahi Hill is a significant site to Ngati Kahungungu with a long history of occupation on the site. Various pits and terraces can still be seen on hill.
