SESSION Abstract: The Mechanics of Equine Speed: Training the Ultimate Athlete
What does it take to prepare a thoroughbred racehorse for peak performance? In the world of horse racing, speed is not just about raw power; it is a delicate balance of biomechanics, conditioning, psychology, and strategic preparation.
In this session, acclaimed Hawke's Bay trainer Guy Lowry pulls back the curtain on the art and science of training racehorses. Drawing on his extensive experience, including his time working with racing legend Bart Cummings, Guy will explore the parallels between human and equine athletes. He will delve into how training programmes are tailored to individual horses, the importance of understanding the physical and mental limits of these magnificent animals, and the sheer competitive spirit that drives them to the finish line.
Whether you are a racing enthusiast or simply fascinated by the mechanics of speed, this session offers a unique insight into the synergy between trainer, jockey, and horse in the ultimate pursuit of victory.
