SESSION Abstract: What if the difference between an ordinary photo and a memorable one was simply learning how to look?
Your smartphone is carrying around a surprisingly powerful camera. But are you getting the most from it? What if the difference between an ordinary photo and a memorable one was simply learning how to look and frame?
Join Myah Houthuijzen for a fun, hands-on workshop that will have you looking at your phone, and the world around you, in a completely different way.
Myah is a creative professional based in Hawke's Bay with a background spanning digital marketing, creative development, entrepreneurship, teaching and coaching. Her experience in digital marketing and creative development means she understands how powerful a good image can be, whether you're capturing a special moment, telling a story or simply sharing something you love.
Whether you're travelling, photographing family and grandchildren, capturing beautiful flowers, food, interiors, or simply want to take better everyday photographs, Myah will show you how to make your smartphone work harder for you with little effort on your part.
In this practical, hands-on workshop, participants will explore how composition, light, perspective, framing and storytelling can transform everyday smartphone photography. After a short introduction to some simple techniques, we’ll head out to the streets of Napier to put them into practice.
You’ll have time to experiment, notice details you might normally overlook and try different ways of capturing the garden. We’ll look at some of the images taken during the session, share observations and explore what makes a photograph feel engaging or memorable.
No complicated photography jargon. No intimidating technical lessons. Just plenty of experimenting, practical tips and fun.
You'll take away:
Confidence to experiment: Discover the features and techniques already in your smartphone and feel comfortable trying them for yourself.
Better photographs, wherever you are: Learn simple tricks for capturing people, places and the things you love, whether you're travelling or simply enjoying everyday life.
Bring your smartphone, your curiosity and your willingness to experiment.
You might be surprised by just how creative your phone can be when you know how!
