Nil Harm, Nil Waste: Anna Mills' Journey to Global Impact
Join us for an inspiring morning as we welcome Hawke’s Bay local Anna Mills — the creative force and purpose-driven entrepreneur behind nil products — to our next Innovate Napier Business Breakfast.
Anna’s story begins with a joyful childhood spent swimming, surfing, and exploring the natural beauty of Hawke’s Bay. It was this deep connection to nature that planted the seeds for her future. Years later, after a successful career in high-flying corporate law — both in New Zealand and abroad — Anna made the bold decision to step away from the boardroom and build something that combined her values, creativity, and desire to make real change.
With three young boys in tow and a passion for the environment, food, and flexible working conditions for women, Anna began building Munch Cupboard (now nil products) during her children’s nap times. What started as an online store with a cookbook and blog has evolved into a global brand, offering over 70 sustainable products, employing local mothers in flexible home-based roles, and exporting eco-conscious goods to supermarkets in Australia, the US, Germany, and Canada.
From baby products to beeswax wraps, nil products stands apart — proudly women-led, ethically produced, and certified sustainable in an industry increasingly clouded by greenwashing. Anna’s journey is not just about business growth, but also about creating a model that supports inclusivity, protects our planet, and empowers others to live sustainably — all while being unapologetically values-driven.
This is your chance to hear Anna’s remarkable story: from choosing law over art, to completing an MBA with toddlers at home, to building a business that leaves a legacy not just for her children, but for communities around the world.
