In association with Hastings Art Gallery’s Burning Ground exhibition

A collaborative exhibition to celebrate woodfired ceramics and its community, this group exhibition brings the fire to the Hastings Arts Centre.

The exhibiting artists, from Te Matau-a-Māui and beyond, have all played a part in the firing process. Wood firings are demanding and labour-intensive. The works in this exhibition respond to that shared, communal experience. Featuring a range of media, including ceramics, video, painting, sound, sculpture, woodwork and photography this exhibition reflects on the community of friends, family, artists and collaborators essential to firing pottery in a wood kiln over multiple days.

Explore the region’s rich ceramic culture by visiting three compelling pottery exhibitions: Firing Season at Hastings Arts Centre, Burning Ground at Hastings Art Gallery, and Earth and Fire at MTG Hawke’s Bay.
