Waiapu Cathedral of St John the Evangelist

Website

The choirs of Waiapu Cathedral present a Spring concert every year, and this year's event on Sunday 5 October, 2.30pm.
To celebrate the joys of new life and hope, both the adult and young people’s choirs will present songs with these themes in their concert "Echoes of Peace: a choral journey – celebrating harmony, spirit and blessing through song."
The choirs are led by the Cathedral’s musical director Anthony Tattersall, who will also play the cathedral organ for some pieces. Anthony was appointed 9 years ago to direct the musical life of Waiapu Cathedral, and has greatly enhanced the opportunities of choral singers and orchestral musicians during the past few years. In particular, the Young People's Choir has been a great starting point for children aged 6 and upwards to learn the basics of music theory and choral performance.
The programme for this concert includes songs that hint of danger and war and those which portray peace as a haven. The adult choir will perform several pieces by contemporary composers like John Rutter, Ola Gjeilo and Eric Whitacre, as well as traditional cathedral anthems and popular Spirituals. The Young People’s choir will also sing some contemporary pieces, including the setting of “The Lord is my Shepherd,” which is the theme for the TV series “The Vicar of Dibley,” and the choirs will join forces to sing two favourite songs by John Rutter, “Look at the World” and the lovely “Gaelic Blessing.”
All are welcome - and don't forget that anyone can park in the carpark behind the cathedral, free of charge, on Sundays.
