Event Details
Celebrate the legacy of one of Aotearoa’s most iconic performing arts venues with a live art auction honouring the 110-year history of the Opera House.
This special event, brings together a powerful collection of original artworks, each inspired by a decade in the life of the Opera House—from grand openings and community gatherings to world-class performances and unforgettable moments on stage.
The auction features eight of the ten original artworks created by some of Hawke’s Bay’s most celebrated artists—each painting representing a decade of the Opera House’s history. These works were digitally reproduced and displayed on the hoardings surrounding the Municipal Building during its earthquake strengthening.
Now, 10 years later, the original works by Freeman White, John Eaden, Kate Mackenzie, Mauricio Benega, Cinzah Merkens, Jo Blogg , Timo Rannali and the late Fane Flaws will be available to purchase.
Join us on the Opera House stage for a one-night-only auction event where all eight artworks will go under the hammer. This is a rare opportunity for art lovers and collectors to own a piece of local history—and support the artists behind the work.
A highlight of the night will be the unveiling of a new commissioned artwork by Freeman White, representing the decade from 2015 to 2025. Sponsored by GEMCO, this final piece completes the 110-year visual timeline and will remain on permanent display in the Opera House.
