Lick This, Napier

Rush Munro, Hastings
Rush Munro has been a summer institution in Hawke’s Bay since they first opened their doors in 1926. Taking out the title of New Zealand’s oldest, award-winning, premium ice cream maker, they have developed mouth-watering recipes over the years. Serving up 100% natural ice-cream, you’ll be able to spot fresh fruit in the fruit ice creams, and can be rest assured that there are no nasty artificial additives. Cool Cat, Napier
A classic summer’s day in Hawke’s Bay wouldn’t be complete without a visit to The Cool Cat in Ahuriri. The popular seaside parlour rolls all your classic favourites straight out of the carton: Cookies & Cream, Chocolate, Orange Choc Chip, Goodie Goodie Gumdrops and Boysenberry, just to name a few. Once you’ve got your cone in hand, there are many places to sit and enjoy it on the bustling esplanade – on the beach, grass, picnic table, bench seats, the choice is yours.
Gelato 2U, Napier
If gelato is your go-to, you won’t go wrong with a visit to Gelato 2U. Handily located on Marine Parade opposite the iSite Visitor Centre, the small and charming parlour offers a range of unique, artisan flavours that will be sure to hit the spot. They also create their gelato using mainly local products from orchards around Hawke’s Bay, and enjoy whipping up flavours you may not have tried before. Now all you have to do is decide how many scoops you’re having!
You’ll catch many locals swinging in to The Strawberry Patch during the day for their real-fruit ice cream fix. You can find this gem on Havelock Road, closest to the bridge leading into (or out of) Havelock North. Build your own cone from what you love: waffle cone or plain?
