Strawberries Five Ways

Nothing says summer like a delicious red strawberry.

Some might say we’re biased but Hawke’s Bay strawberries are the best in the world. A Hawke’s Bay strawberry or two can make a bad day excellent. Yes, they are that good. So where do you get your mits on some of the best?

  • Scotts Strawberries have some very loyal followers - known to patiently queue up outside their humble shop before it even opens to ensure they don’t miss out. If you want to avoid tears in your household, go early. The sold out sign is not an uncommon sight
  • The Strawberry Patch is another iconic destination for purveyors of strawberries. Not only can you buy them in punnet of varying sizes, but your can also PYO (pick your own) which is a great option if you want to save a few dollars, are picky (get it?) or have children you are looking to put to work. Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen -  Hawke’s Bay rays can be harsh.

So now you’ve got home and if, you’ve managed to stop yourself from shoving every last one in your gob, we’ve got  a few suggestions for you you to try:

  1. Whip up a delicious strawberry smoothie: milk, yoghurt, strawberries, banana. Boom.
  2. Add them to a jug of water for colour and a hint of berry flavour
  3. Thinly slice strawberries and sprinkle over brown sugar and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar for a quick dessert
  4. Dip them in a bowl of melted chocolate and leave to set
  5. Strawberry bruschetta: this one is out of the box, but bound to be a hit. Spread toasted baguette with goats cheese, top with chopped strawberries and chopped basil and freshly ground black pepper
