Gingas In the Stings

227 Heretaunga St East, Hastings

A celebration of redhead pride and connection. A family-friendly gathering of those blessed with red hair (and those who once were and still identify as ginger). The February 1 date was chosen because it is St Brigid's Day, honouring Ireland's patron saint of redheads.
The combined visual effect of the gathering will be enough to make a sunset jealous but our aim really is to create a warm, inner glow for everyone there.
To connect and celebrate is the goal and as part of that there will be a golden medal for the most Fanta-tastic beard, the Lion Red Prize for longest red hair, a St Brigid award for the most praiseworthy locks, the People's Flag Cup for revolutionary eyebrows, a Ginger Gem Trophy for the smallest ginger person and spot prizes for freckles.
There are many people who grew up as redheads but the evidence of it has faded somewhat. We'd encourage anyone who identifies as ginger to print a photo of their younger self and hang it round their neck or pin it to their shirt.
Another option for once-were-gingers or wannabes is to dress in their most scarlet outfit.
