The Big Easy FAQs

It costs $35 for Adults and $15 for Children ages 15 and under to enter The Big Easy.

It is approx 25km from the Family start at the Spirit of Napier statue on Marine Parade to the finish at Black Barn Vineyard.

Online registrations will close at midday Wednesday 17th April*.

There may be limited 'on the day' registrations available at the Church Road start and the Family Start on Marine Parade, however spots will be limited so we highly recommend pre-registering.

*Please note: to be guaranteed a T-shirt you must register by close of day on Sunday 24th of March. After that time T-shirts will be allocated on a first in, first served basis. 

There may be limited number of registrations available on the day at the main start at Church Road Winery and at the Family Start on Marine Parade. However to avoid disappointment we strongly recommend your pre-register.

The Big Easy will officially start at 10:30am from Church Road Winery in Taradale, Napier, and wrap up at 5:00pm with the end of the concert at Black Barn Vineyard in Havelock North kicking off at 2:00pm.

There will also be a Family Start at the Spirit of Napier statue on Marine Parade which will roll out at 11:30am

The concert will start at 1:30pm and wrap up at 5:00pm.

You will receive a Cycle The Big Easy T-Shirt*, Cycle The Big Easy wristband (allowing you access to all the deals along the way and access to the concert) as well as information on all the awesome deals you can find on the route.

If you have pre-registered, you can pick up your registration pack from Black Barn Vineyards (before hopping on the bus) or at the start lines: Church Road Winery between 9:00am and 10:30am or on Marine Parade at the Spirit of Napier statue (Family Start) between 10:30am and 11:30am.

Registration pack collection will also be available on Thursday 18 April from the Hawke's Bay Tourism office building - 19 Waghorne Street, Ahuriri
Registration collection will be open 10:00am - 6:30pm.

Please note: On-the-day registrations will only be possible at Church Road Winery or the Marine Parade Family Start - not at Black Barn Vineyards. On-the-day registrations will also incur an additional $10 per person fee, and no guarantee of t-shirt sizing.

Yes, there will be parking available at the Black Barn Vineyard finish line, as well as at the start lines at Church Road Winery and the Spirit of Napier statue on Marine Parade (Family Start). Please look for the signs and don't park anywhere you shouldn't.

Small:  Chest - 97cm

Medium:  Chest - 102cm

5X-Large:  Chest - 132cm

Chest measurement is based off measuring under your arms around the fullest part of your chest.

Please note: to be guaranteed a specific t-shirt size, you must register by the close of business on Sunday 24 March. After that time t-shirts will be allocated online on a first in, first served basis.

In association with Hawke's Bay Regional Council. the Rotary Club of Ahuriri Sunrise have released a special collectable version of the Hawke's Bay Trails Map.

Printed on Microfibre, these are a durable, all weather version of the map that do not suffer the same fate as paper when subject to rain or scrunched into a pocket.

You can purchase a Manky Map when you register for the Big Easy for just $15 - proceeds from map sales go to local Rotary projects and track maintenance.

There will be transport available between Black Barn Vineyards and Church Road, and between Black Barn Vineyards and Marine Parade (Family Start).
Buses are available at a cost of $10.00 per person one way. This includes a bus pass for the rider and a truck pass for your bike.
Please book your space when you register to make sure you've got a seat.

Morning transfer: Black Barn Vineyards to Church Road
Be at Black Barn from 8:00am to load your bike and hop onto your bus.
Buses will start departing from 8:45am with the last bus departing at 9:30am

Morning transfer: Black Barn Vineyards to the Spirit of Napier statue on Marine Parade (Family Start)
Be at Black Barn from 10:00am to load your bike and hop onto your bus.
The bus will depart at 10:30am sharp.

Afternoon transfer: Black Barn Vineyards to Church Road and Black Barn Vineyards to the Spirit of Napier statue on Marine Parade (Family start)
Early buses will depart Black Barn at 4:00pm
Remaining buses will depart Black Barn at 5:15pm or at the end of the concert

This option is to be taken at your own risk. The organisers take no responsibility for any damage or loss to bikes should you use this option.

Children are welcome to register for The Big Easy and ride with a supervising adult at the cost of $15 per child (15 years and younger).

This year, the Family Start is from the Spirit of Napier statue on Marine Parade - a ride of approximately 25km to Black Barn Vineyards - to help little legs make it to the finish line.

  • Your printed registration form.
  • Your Bike - we recommend that you have this safety checked
  • Bike helmet – check that it fits correctly - helmet is to fit snugly under the chin, and two fingers should fit under the chin strap. Helmets are compulsory
  • Closed-in Running Shoes & socks
  • Any medication you may need during the event
  • Drink bottle and water
  • Sunscreen
  • A jacket to make sure you're not cold at the end of the event
  • Cash on hand for refreshments along the way
  • A padlock for your bike.

All public roads will remain open to vehicles, please be safety conscious and aware of your surroundings at all times.

There may be limited door sales available depending on ticket availability. To guarantee yourself a ticket please register online .

Sorry, there is a no BYO policy in place for Black Barn Vineyard. There will be alcohol available to purchase on site.

The Big Easy will go on! Riders in Hawke's Bay aren't afraid of rain!

In the event that The Big Easy is cancelled refunds will be given. If you think the event may be cancelled please check the website for more information.

No sorry, due to the safety risks to both your dog and other riders we do not allow dogs to participate in The Big Easy.
