Mahia Peninsula
Nestled on the northeastern edge of the Hawke's Bay region, Mahia Peninsula is surrounded by the deep blue and crystal clear Pacific Ocean, which breaks onto a mix of black and white sandy and rocky beaches.
Mahia is a 45 minute drive north from Wairoa, Hawke's Bay’s northern most town. It is a mecca for outdoor activities like fishing, diving, kayaking and surfing – noted surf breaks being Mahanga Beach, the Reefs and Black’s Beach.
Space pioneers Rocket Lab have also set up shop with their Launch Complex 1 at the southern tip of the peninsula. Wairoa District Council have set up a viewing spot on Blucks Pit Road, so if your Mahia Peninsula road trip coincides with one of Rocket Lab's launch windows, get there to watch history being made.
