Māhia Golf Club is a simple links course which runs through an elongated dune valley on the Māhia Peninsula isthmus sand dunes. It was selected as a top course by GOLF in its list of 50 top nine-hole courses around the world for 2020.
The course today extends to a little over 2,900 meters starting from back tees. with a par of 36. The holes are arranged as par threes in two sections with two par fives as well as five four-par. Fairways, a lot of that are protected by lateral water hazards are fast and firm throughout the year and connect to greens with bunkerless bunkers which are more difficult to comprehend than you initially believe.
The highlight holes are the doglegged left opening and the 190-meter sixth (The Beacons") which is named for ship-locator beacons which were once placed in the high ground behind the green. The last hole worth mentioning as the two mounds that lie on each side of the elevated, two-tiered green at home give the hole the name "The Cleavage".
