With so much to see and do on Marine Parade, the long stretch of beach makes a scenic and interesting area to sit down and enjoy a packed lunch. Watch the waves roll in, the cyclists zip down the waterfront, and if you’ve got children with you, there are plenty of opportunities for them to play while you sit back and relax. A perfect afternoon!
A location enjoyed by both adults and kids, the eight hectares of sprawling English village green, stunning gardens, and a fully equipped playground makes for a fun picnic location. Once you’ve finished grazing, take some time out to explore your wonderful surrounds, visit the ducks, and enjoy the glorious Hawke’s Bay weather under the enormous lofty trees.
Ahuriri Foreshore is one of Napier’s busier locations. You’ll find a handful of tables available, a large grassy area hugging the beach, as well as bench seats close to the carpark. A picnic at Ahuriri Foreshore is not complete without a visit to ‘The Cool Cat’, Napier’s infamous ice-cream parlour. You’ll find just about every flavour of Tip Top ice-cream – yum!
Located in Havelock North, Keirunga Gardens boasts 17 hectares of formal gardens and parklands. There are plenty of wide-open spaces to enjoy a delicious spread, many walkways and woodlands to discover, a playground, and an 846 metre mini-train that winds its way around the park through tunnels and across bridges that provides plenty of excitement for kids.
An idyllic setting for a picnic, the Botanical Gardens offers an 18-acre floral oasis in the heart of Napier city. At the lower end of the park you will find a small aviary, duck pond, and the remnants of two historic wells which were used over 100 years ago. Spend a few hours relaxing in the lush surrounds with a packed lunch, and explore the several walking tracks winding through thousands of plantings.
