Royal New Zealand Navy Charity Concert - ADF18

119 Tennyson St, Napier

Sponsored by: Brebner Print

Regarded as the Country’s finest military bands, the Royal New Zealand Navy commemorates its Art Deco connection with a not to be missed concert at the Napier Municipal Theatre, conducted by Lieutenant, Michael Dowrick, RNZN.

Lt Dowrick, formerly a Director of Music with the Royal Marines, most recently directed its School of Music. During his Service, Lt Dowrick travelled all over the world, including his first visit to New Zealand in 1986 on board Her Majesty’s Royal Yacht, Britannia. The Royal connection did not stop there. In 2000, he wrote a fair portion of the music performed during the Queen Mother's Parade of the Century, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and recently appeared at the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations in Windsor.

Other highlights in Lt Dowrick's career include writing the opening fanfare for the 2009 Edinburgh Military Tattoo and conducting a Royal Marines Band at Ground Zero, New York City. Pushing the boundaries of music presentation, the Navy Band does everything from singing to dancing, and showcases their reputed Drum line routine which will blow your mind.

Having performed at Art Deco many times the Navy Band is popular amongst revellers. The performance will be packed with music anyone can relate to and will target school children in the morning, then the festive Art Deco fans in the afternoon. You will hear Dixie, jazz, traditional and classical music. Dress to the nines and get your toes tapping for a concert of fun and laughter.

Take a look around...
