At Napier Prison tours, your personal guide will enthral you with tales of the villains, victims and heroes that have served time in the oldest prison in New Zealand. An audio tour with accompanying sound effects is a fun and educational way to learn of the prison’s interesting history if you prefer to walk around at your own pace.
- Be entertained with stories of infamous deeds, notorious gang members, violent kingpins, prison escapes, ghosts and inside scams. Visitors have stated that the Napier Prison Tour experience was the highlight of their East Coast visit. Napier Prison was closed in 1993 and reopened in 2002 for your memorable experience in Hawkes Bay.
- Recommended and featured on the front cover of the 1001 Best Things to See and Do in NZ book. Also featured in the "Redemption Hill" and "Off the Rails" TV series.
- The only Hawkes Bay attraction and one of the only 6 New Zealand destinations listed in NZ in the 2008 Lonely Planet Blue List Book.
