Cycling Events in Hawke's Bay

Hawke’s Bay hosts many cycling events throughout the year.

Hawke’s Bay is humming with events that range from easy rambles around the cycle trails to road races over mountain passes.

One of the country’s largest and oldest road cycling clubs, Ramblers, holds regular road races, including criteriums, time trials and mini tours.
In winter, cyclo-cross is popular, catering for all ages from 8 -99 years old. You won't need any special equipment, just a bike and a helmet. Find out more at
Likewise, the Hawke’s Bay Mountain Bike Club offers a range of off-road events (see for more information).

For families and those looking for a less competitive option, the major event of the year is The Big Easy.

The Big Easy, held every year on Easter Saturday along the Hawke’s Bay Trails is the ultimate antidote to all those serious lycra laden cycling events held across the country. Ramblers Cycling Club organises regular road races, including time trials and criteriums. The two largest events on the annual calendar are Tour of the Bay and the Gentle Annie.

Tour of the Bay is a fun ride for road riders. It has been run annually since 1990. There are various categories and courses. Read more…
