Walk with the Ancestors 2 Hour Tour
A Guided Tour of Waimarama
From the Waimarama Beach to the remnant of the ancient fortress site of Hakikino to our present day Marae, you walk the pathways of our people and experience the remaining pockets of native plants, native forests and wetland areas. Let one of elders share with you these sacred sites: the bush lore, the folklore, the culture and the language: all of which continue to shape the hopes and aspirations of the people today. A friendly and relaxed encounter.

Te Mata Peak and Pou of the Ancestors  2 Hour Tour
Havelock North and Hastings Based
From atop lofty Te Mata Peak in Havelock North enjoy the panoramic views across the plains to the summits of the five pillars that hold up the heavens. It is the story of creation; ancient gods and rebellious offspring. Visit the Pillars of the Plains; the carved totems represent all of the eighteen tribes of this area. Unique ancestors, each with their own tale and individual carving style provide a fascinating link to their descendants who still thrive today.

A Day in the Life of a Maori Elder 5 Hour Tour
Including lunch and transportation
Robert Mac Donald is a historian, writer and respected elder of his tribe. He was raised in the small coastal community of Waimarama where he still lives today. This very special tour gives you unfettered access to the world of Maori rarely seen by outsiders.
Robert has a rich Maori heritage. He is knowledgeable and articulate and an excellent and interesting story teller. With humour and grace he will share his personal insights with you.
Take a walk with him on the ancestral sacred lands of Hakikino, visit the native plant nursery. And hear about the unique challenges of combining all of this in a contemporary and viable farming business.
Visit with his family at their ancestral home and at their marae reservation. Robert has an interesting and varied life and enjoys meeting people and sharing a meal, which you will enjoy together at a local Hawke’s Bay restaurant.
