Winter Deco Floor Talk - He Manu Tīoriori: Songbirds
Join curator, Charles Ropitini, for a special floor talk on Māori jazz bands and waiata of the 1930’s portrayed through the exhibition He Manu Tīoriori: Songbirds - 100 Years of Ngāti Kahungunu Music.
The interwar years saw a proliferation of Māori jazz bands across the tribe of Ngāti Kahungunu where long summer evenings were spent under a blue moon and starry skies dancing, singing and making music after a hard day’s work in the fields and orchards. Charles will sing you through the exhibition and share stories of a days-gone-by in the villages of Ngāti Kahungunu.
