In 2010 Shanghai will host the biggest World Expo in the history of world expositions.
The Expo will run from 1 May to 31 October 2010. As at 8th August 2008, 177 countries, 44 international organizations and 7 UN organizations have confirmed to participate in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
More than 70 million people are expected to visit the expo site, which covers 5.28 square kilometres on the banks of the Huangpu River in Central Shanghai.
Prime Minister John Key has confirmed that New Zealand will spend $30 million constructing and promoting its pavilion for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. This sum is five times the amount spent at the last world expo at Aichi in Japan.
Hawke’s Bay was the first New Zealand region to confirm attendance.
The main goal of the project is to leverage the region’s trading potential with China by using the Shanghai 2010 Expo to tell the Hawke’s Bay story inside New Zealand.
Currently Venture Hawkes Bay, Export Hawkes Bay and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise are working together to profile and promote Hawke’s Bay at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo in China from August 13 to 18.
These 6 days will be known as "Hawkes Bay Week" and each day will focus on a key industry sector and be hosted by a Hawkes Bay Business Leader specialising in that sector. The sectors involved in order of day are:
· Local Government
· Tourism
· Food and Beverage
· Specialized Manufacturing
· Education
· Primary Sector
The NZ Pavilion VIP area will be turned into a Hawke’s Bay space for the week with businesses being able to invite Chinese contacts to a range of functions.
